Beer = good

Hey everyone.

Well, it's been another week. What have I learned? I have great friends.

I knew that before, of course, but it's always affirming when you get in a big group of happy friends. The picture above was taken at the epicenter of a happy group of friends Monday night in suburban Montgomery. Beer is good. Friends are good. It's all good.

Speaking of All Good, I recently downloaded a copy of Lotus' set at the All Good Festival from earlier this year. It's outstanding. I learned of Lotus only a few weeks ago while listening on Jam_ON via SiriusXM. They're right in my wheelhouse -- a fusion of rock, electronica and jammy jam.

You know what I like about Lotus? They used to be 100% jammy, like a watered-down version of Phish, but they began adding an synth element to their stuff. They have created a new kind of sound; one that is unique to Lotus. It takes courage to break away from the norm, the safe path, and instead do what feels best to you.

I think there's a lesson in there somewhere. It may be applicable.

... and as always, keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.

  1. Not to bad, but I don't get into the techno stuff. Maybe if they could play some Skynard.

  2. Not bad stuff...may deserve some follow up.

Little I listened to reminded me of an old instrumantal jazzy set I used to listen to..The Rippingtons.

  3. Oh yeah, Second.

    ...ugh, I mean Third.

    Drat.

  4. And I'll agree. Beer IS GOOD. Have been trying lots of new stuff at the couple of local Growler joints that have opened near me.

Found that my current tastebuds are hanging onto a crisper flavs. Hopped Ales, not too watery Lagers, Pilsners and Kolschs...

  5. Rippingtons. Been a minute since I ran into them. Brings back memories.

  6. Not so much a specific memory as much as a time in life ... and certain someones. But I ain't 'bout to get into all that.

  7. Comparable to The Rippington's? I'll have to check them out then.

  8. Similar, but different.

Rippingtons more Jazzy. Have a CD or two somewhere.

  9. The amateur photog in me forgot to mention i like the thread's cover photo. Pleasing light/depth of field combo,....and beer.

    Looks like Dos Equis...

  10. Nothing like Rippingtons. They have way too much smooth jazz influence. I'm a music nut, and smooth jazz is the musical equivalent to the WNBA for me. I cannot handle it in any form.

I'm shocked that bands like Lotus, The Disco Biscuits, STS9, and Zilla have stood the test of time, and that the electro-jam stuff has grown as large as it has. On any given day in Jax I can find a band like Lucky Costello or Lumagrove out making music with guitars, drums, synths, and midi inputs. Festivals, drugs, and groovy music seem to have driven it.

That subject has really nice hands and should become a hand model.

  11. I'd never heard of Lotus before this thread. The Lotus song I sampled was nice but didn't remind me of The Rippingtons. I like some Smooth Jazz on a long drive, it's cool by me but that's kinda why B&R has 31 flavors, I don't have to like all of them but those I don't someone else does. Same with music.

  12. Frankenbummer's nickname in high school was "Smooth Jazz"

  13. Like I said, Lotus is the same but different.

In case you need it: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/different

    sheesh.

  14. Don't get your panties in a bunch, sheesh. I'm right familiar with The Rippingtons. If by "same" you meant 'they're each playing music', then sure, I can accept that. If you meant something else, well then you're just plain wrong. WRONG.

  15. AllenD is a Hitler lovin' Nazi.

  16. That's mean to say. I thought he was more of a Mussolini guy.

  17. I heard JayG has sold out. He's only having a blast over here now. His new found fame and wealth are changing him.

    We're just 'remember whens' now.

  18. Pretty soon, he'll be missing that furlough week, will spout off at a hammer, and "suspend" himself for a week. I hear that's what those gliterati do over there at AuburnSports.com

  19. I prefer benevolent despot,...more in the order of Maximilien Robespierre...and likely a similar term in office.

    Ya tone deef lowlanders.

  20. So, how 'bout this weather huh?

  21. If you're talking about outside=coaching seats, then, yes. Yes, the seats are warmer than had been forecasted.

  22. Hey there, hi there, ho there...and suddenly Eddie came to mind.

  23. We'll be down there in a couple of weeks.

  24. Next fall for us, and I cannot say that I'm excited about it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Once every other year is plenty in my book. I'm no CrazyEddie. I'll need to rest up pre and post trip.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Think we're done. Have other places to check off of the list now that are overdue...well, places to take the kids, I've already checked many of the ones on the list off...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Your not done until we say your done, AllenD. And you're not done.

    ReplyDelete
  28. With a young boy in the house, I don't expect we'll be done for awhile yet. Plenty of other things I'd like us to do too, but I figure once every other year or so should be sufficient for us.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If I have kids, they will never go to Disney. If there is anything I thank my parents for doing, it's taking me to much cooler places than that. I wanted to go some as a kid, but more out of curiosity...

  30. We've been three times as a family,...pretty all inclusive trips, seen everything, rode everything, park hopped galore, princess meals and all. Last trip, at day 4 we had pretty much covered what we wanted to do, and had to work a little harder..hey, let's add on the water parks...to keep entertained.

Before my girls outgrow traveling with family, want to take them out west, an island somewhere, New York,...

And we'll be able to take a couple of really nice trips for what we've tended to spend at Disney. $1 to Mickey.

    Bubbs, we're done.

  31. I don't mind it too much in moderation, as I said once every other year or so. But, I won't miss it once F4* gets of the age where he no longer cares one way or the other. There are lots of other places in this country I'd rather go and will.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think this will be a one and done, as long as I agree to have more and better family adventures. I'm fine with that.

I never went to Disney as a kid. I don't regret it. I've seen things and been places. Plan on seeing more.

Some of my best adventures have come by just pulling out of the driveway and pointing the car in a general direction.

  33. I'll talk football on here, since our host cannot :-)

Frazier ...work in progress. Lack of foresight not giving him real playing time last year. We're also working on flipping someone that was a system QB (the Malz way) to a pro set QB. Different, and is going to take time. Frazier is bits of a second late on decisioning his passes. He's who we have. He'll have to learn to get it or be replaced.

Interesting we burned Wallaces redshirt. Although I'm of the opinion it doesnt pay to redshirt anymore (unless it's a weight /strength issue)...you're going to try and recruit their replacements anyway.

    Defense played much better.

A turnover made the difference. I miss Robert Baker. Need to find an assassin to catch the football.

  34. So many other places to talk football. Lets talk having a blast!

    ReplyDelete
  35. It had gone a day and a half of being blastless. Thought football might have been a way to nudge someone. Didn't really work.

So much for that nickname I was considering: ...Mr. pied piper...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Are we still having a blast or no?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Blast? Well, I guess you could say that. Everything seems to have blown up.

    ReplyDelete
  38. What a great day to be alive on the Earth!!!!!! HOPE YOU GUYS ARE HAVING A BLAST!!!!!!!!!>!?!?>!>

  39. I'm having a blast now that the jig is up and I have found you lot of degenerates...
